U.S. and Israeli officials have declared that a nuclear-armed Iran is a uniquely terrifying prospect, even an existential threat. In fact, by creating a more durable balance of military power in the Middle East, a nuclear Iran would yield more stability, not less.
via Why Iran Should Get the Bomb.
Foreign Affairs has taken on this subject in a way that I think is courageous. I only have two comments. I think this assumes a very rational logical thought process on the part of the State department, the Congress and the Presidency of the US, a coincidence that has not occurred for a long time. Secondly, Iran is a casualty perhaps of its own success in a world of opposition-to-the-US! Iran has weathered many storms and taken on the US and the US has never never forgiven or forgotten. It was taken as a personal afford by most Americans when Iran challenged the US. The last country/leader to do so was Castro and look what has happened to the sanctions against Cuba. I am sure that the US is not a forgiving superpower nor one that takes opposition to its stated policies, terms and conditions lightly. Ergo while it is nice to read this it shall never come to pass. Please read it!
